Casey McLerran

Born in Forest Hills, New York, McLerran’s move to America’s historic Indian Territory in early childhood shaped deeply her perspectives related to place, space, and identity. McLerran’s body of work is an attempt to unravel stereotypes and generalizations that are often heavily relied on as a means of avoiding deeper self (or societal) reflection. While McLerran’s aim is designing a more holistic future on a foundation of diversity her methodology is one of nuance, intuition, and understanding.

Xenophontulsa-2021—Strange: Symphony

Alchemy: Anonymous (Casey McLerran) invites attendees to Xenophontulsa-2021--Strange: Symphony, a one-day event that includes musical performances, a book fair, a playground, and performance art. Food and merchandise vendors will also be present. McLerran pushes against xenophobia by modeling a celebratory and inclusive site where visitors build community and connections regardless of their differences. Reimagining Tulsa’s “Steps to Nowhere” as “Magic City Park,” McLerran hopes to empower visitors to reclaim undeveloped spaces to meet community needs such as lack of access to music, visual arts, education, recreation, and commerce.

Xenophontulsa-2021--Strange: Symphony will take place on August 7 at the “Steps to Nowhere” at 98 E. Haskell St.
